What Families Say About Seven Star Martial Arts

Our reviews show the difference structured karate training can make, from building confidence and focus to developing discipline, respect and resilience.

"Best decision I made for the children. Essentially started them so they can defend themselves if needed. The classes support and equipped the children with so much more and so many different skills such as self esteem, confidence, respect, listening and discipline.

Instructors are great and full of enthusiasm. Different days or times to choose from which gives flexibility.

Both children started at the age of 4, 3 years in and I've also joined with the children which is great fun. Great club, great atmosphere.!"

Carly, Parent of a Tiger a Dragon, and now a student herself.

"I've been taking my sons to Seven Star Martial Arts for over 12 years and that already says something.

Eventually my husband joined them as well. On the start we wanted to help our kids gain more confidence but they've learned so much more there...and got fitter.

All our family highly recommends these classes and Master Summers is not only a great instructor but also a role model for young people."

The classes are well-structured, fun, and engaging, with the perfect balance of learning and physical activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting something new is easier when you know what to expect. These FAQs cover trial lessons, class suitability, what to wear, class length, safety and membership options at Seven Star Martial Arts.

Q: What is the youngest age children can start karate?

The youngest age we usually accept is 4 years old.

In some cases, we may consider a child who is only a couple of weeks away from their 4th birthday, but this is assessed during the 1-2-1 trial lesson.

Children need to be able to listen, follow simple instructions and cope safely in the class environment before joining regular classes.

For children aged 4 to 12, the 1-2-1 trial lesson helps us make sure the right class, age group and programme are chosen before they start.

FAQ image

Q: Are your classes suitable for beginners?

Yes. Most new students start as complete beginners, so our classes are structured to help students learn safely and confidently from the beginning.

Children aged 4 to 12 start with a 1-2-1 trial lesson first, so we can introduce them calmly, assess the right programme and make their first regular class much easier.

Teens and adults are also welcome, whether they are complete beginners or returning to martial arts after time away.

FAQ image

Q: Why do you offer 1-2-1 trial lessons and how do I book?

We offer 1-2-1 trial lessons because starting martial arts can feel daunting, especially for younger children or students who are nervous in group settings.

The trial lesson gives each new student a calm, personalised introduction before joining regular classes. It also helps us assess the right age group, class and programme, so students can start safely, confidently and at the right level.

For children aged 4 to 12, the 1-2-1 trial lesson is the required first step. Teens and adults can choose either a 1-2-1 trial lesson or a free in-class trial, depending on what feels right for them.

To book, click the Book A Trial button, choose the right age group and location, then select an available trial lesson time from the calendar.

FAQ image

Q: What should I wear to my first 1-2-1 trial lesson?

For the 1-2-1 trial lesson, students should wear comfortable clothing they can move in, such as tracksuit bottoms, leggings, shorts and a T-shirt.

They do not need a karate uniform for the trial lesson. If they enrol afterwards, we will explain the correct uniform and equipment needed for their programme.

FAQ image

Q: How long are the classes and do students attend twice per week?

Tigers classes for ages 4 to 6 are 30 minutes and run twice per week.

Dragons & Family classes for ages 7 to 12, and Teens & Adults classes for ages 13 and above, are 60 minutes and also run twice per week.

We recommend attending both weekly classes wherever possible, as regular training helps students build confidence, improve skills and make steady progress.

FAQ image

Q: Is karate safe for children?

Yes. Safety is a priority in every class at Seven Star Martial Arts.

Students are taught in a structured, age-appropriate way, with clear instruction, close supervision and a positive training environment.

Our instructors and leaders are first aid trained and certificated, and we have safeguarding and child protection policies in place to support children and families.

FAQ image

Q: How much are the classes?

Class fees depend on the student’s age, programme, location and membership option. Class fees start at £40 pcm, to £56pcm, with 25% discount for additional family members on certain programmes.

Like many structured children’s activities, such as swimming, dance, gymnastics or music lessons, martial arts is an investment in regular coaching, progression and personal development.

At Seven Star Martial Arts, students are not only learning karate skills, they are also developing confidence, discipline, focus, respect, resilience and positive habits.

We explain the current membership options clearly during the 1-2-1 trial lesson, once we know the right class and programme for the student. Family discounts and discounted enrolment packs may also be available.
